After he’s forced to star in a propaganda film, a famous Egyptian actor is drawn into a shadowy world full of dangers in Tarik Saleh’s bold, stylish political thriller.

The character at this engrossing thriller, fictional actor George Fahmy, is a man who’s clearly accustomed to the benefits of fame. As played with great skill and charisma by Fares Fares, George moves through the world with the unshakable belief that he occupies the starring role in whatever room he happens to enter.

But the gripping events that unfold in Eagles of the Republic teach George a hard lesson about who really controls the levers.

Under the watchful eye of Dr. Mansour (Amr Waked), a secretive government official, George faces the challenge of delivering the goods in this unusually high-stakes production while navigating new relationships with other powerful figures. While tensions in George’s personal and family lives bode more trouble, he takes a far greater risk when he grows closer to Suzanne (Zineb Triki), the alluring wife of the General in charge of the film.

Demonstrating the same ruthlessly sharp eye for Cairo’s power dynamics that distinguished director Tarik Saleh’s award-winning The Nile Hilton Incident and Cairo Conspiracy (both shown at the Palace!)

The first blow to his confidence comes with the offer to perform in a new movie celebrating the regime, an offer the vain actor realizes he’s in no position to refuse.

Demonstrating the same ruthlessly sharp eye for Cairo’s power dynamics that distinguished director Tarik Saleh’s award-winning The Nile Hilton Incident and Cairo Conspiracy (both shown at the Palace!) Saleh draws in viewers with tantalizing images of wealth, glamour, and privilege before revealing the brutal reality existing behind the luxurious facade.

“It’s the closest this country came to a revolution…”

A hundred years ago workers across Britain come out in support of over a million miners locked out of work for refusing to accept lower pay.

This documentary account of the historic events of 1926 is based on interviews with many involved in the strike, including people on both sides of the dispute, the film explores what happened against the political background of the time.

The strikers faced the full force of the establishment including Winston Churchill, upper class volunteers, the BBC, the police and the army. But in the end many believed they only failed because they were betrayed by their leadership in the TUC.

The failure of the strike was a hugely traumatic event. Many individuals came out the strike devastated. Whole communities were left in pieces.

Based on the bestselling book by Robert Macfarlane, Underland is a cinematic documentary that voyages into worlds rarely glimpsed by human eyes.

Co-written by McFarlane, this haunting beautiful film shows how little we know of the world beneath our feet. To most it is a place only of fear and darkness, though to a brave few it is one of knowledge and wonder to be found nowhere else.

Beginning in the shallow soils beneath an old ash tree, the film follows several ‘astronauts of the underworld’ as they travel into ancient sacred caves, flooded storm drains, melting glaciers, underwater burial chambers and a deep underground laboratory built to solve the mysteries of the Universe.

Narrated by Oscar-nominated Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), and with a uniquely poetic approach, Underland is a deep dive into the Earth that ultimately presents a groundbreaking vision for rethinking our lives on this fragile surface.

The first blow to his confidence comes with the offer to perform in a new movie celebrating the regime, an offer the vain actor realizes he’s in no position to refuse.

BAFTA-winner Felipe Bustos Sierra’s documentary about one of Scotland’s most spontaneous and successful acts of civil resistance in recent memory.

In May 2021, a UK Home Office dawn raid in the Glasgow district of Pollokshields, one of Scotland’s most diverse neighbourhoods, prompted local residents to rush to the streets to stop the deportation of their neighbours.

The UK is a wild and beautiful place, but the vast majority of it is off limits to the general public, with 92% of land and 97% of all rivers in England not legally accessible. At the same time, it is a landscape shaped by centuries of inheritance and tradition, with land held and cared for by families across multiple generations.

Our Land takes us to the heart of the ‘Right to Roam’ movement as it embarks on a provocative trail of mass trespass, campaigning and education, while also exploring landowners’ concerns around environmental protection and the danger such widespread access could pose to a landscape already under threat.

For her feature directorial debut, Kristin Scott Thomas leads Scarlett Johansson and Sienna Miller in a charming family drama about three sisters who are hung up on the men in their lives, as their mother prepares for her third wedding.

On the eve of their twice-widowed mother’s third wedding, three sisters return to their home in the English countryside for a tenuous reunion. Having lost their father and their stepfather, both perishing while serving in the British Royal Navy, the women continue to grapple with complex feelings left behind by these mythologized men.

Following in her father’s footsteps, Katherine (Scarlett Johansson) prepares for a new role as a captain in the navy. It proves a bittersweet moment to untangle her childhood recollections of loss. Meanwhile, Victoria (Sienna Miller), the eldest sister, is content to milk the family tragedy in interviews to help her Hollywood acting career. And the youngest, Georgina (Emily Beecham), who has a more dutiful life as a nurse, worries about her husband’s fidelity. None of them has a hope of a healthy relationship if they can’t let go of the men in their memories, and it isn’t long before their mother has to shake all three of her daughters out of themselves.

Directing for the first time, Kristin Scott Thomas - who also plays the titular mother - uses her own family history as a jumping-off point for this charming family drama. With richly drawn lives for each of its characters, and beautifully animated flashback sequences that pull you into the grief they’re trying to leave behind, this is a triumphant tale about the people who are always by our side, adds to Scott Thomas’ storied career.

Join us to enjoy classic films from the great Stan and Ollie, with a focus on their early years and live piano from Lillian Henley!

Their individual skills as on-screen comedians and their double act was developed in the years before sound. Many of their silent classics were produced by Hal Roach and directed by Leo McCarey, the two who had first noticed the chemistry between Stan and Ollie and paired them up together for the first time in 1927 for Do Detectives Think?. For this film their costumes were the classic crumpled suits and bowler hats of detectives at the time, outfits which would become an intrinsic part of the characters which cinema audiences grew to know and love.

Today we’ll meet the fellas as they try to make a go of it as musicians, try to get away with a reckless night out, and try to raise funds by throwing Stan in the ring as a boxer. All this and much more, including a lack of trousers, several raised eyebrows and many, many custard pies.

A gloriously unscrupulous social climber (Richard E Grant) and his razor-sharp wife (Claire Foy) prepare to host a dinner party for a duke and duchess in 18th-century England.

A hilariously scabrous tale of aristocracy in decline, as a pair of desperate aristocrats bank on schmuzing a visiting Duke in a desperate attempt to revive their favour and fortune as their ancestral home crumbles around their ears.

18th Century England, low-ranking aristocrats, the Savages are at their lowest: they despise each other, their house is falling apart, and they are deeply disliked in polite society - sleeping with their servants, and selling off jewellery to keep their gambling and drinking going. Oh, and Chauncey Savage’s (Richard E. Grant - Withnail & I, Can You Ever Forgive Me?) foot might be rotting off.

Hearing of an impending visit by higher ranking nobility, gives them a last gasp chance at saving their failing ancestral home. The pair splash out on new outfits, polish their silver, and hire new help to make sure the House of Savage is looking as impressive as possible. Anchored by two outrageously hilarious performances by British legends Claire Foy (H is for Hawk, All of Us Strangers) and Richard E.
