A witty, pacy and engaging dramatisation of the early years of famed American chef and author Anthony Bourdain as he earns his stripes in the some of the world’s toughest kitchens – adapted from Bourdain’s 2000 memoir Kitchen Confidential.
It’s 1975 and all 19-year-old Tony (Dominic Sessa – who you may remember as the moody teenager from The Holdovers) wants to be is a writer. His hopes and dreams are dashed when he doesn’t get a prized fellowship to go to university after telling everyone he knows it’s a sure thing.
Trying to find his place in the world and essentially running away from home, Tony ends up in Provincetown, stumbling into the chaotic world of the restaurant of a Brazilian-born ‘Chef’ (played by Antonio Banderas). Thus sets off a transformative summer that will shape the course of his entire life as he learns what it takes to run his own restaurant.
