Bafta nominated for Best Animation!
Based on the much-loved, best-selling children’s novel by Michael Morpurgo (War Horse) and adapted for screen by current Children’s Laureate, Frank Cottrell-Boyce, this is a gorgeous moving hand-drawn animation for all the family.
Kensuke’s Kingdom tells the epic adventure of Michael, a young boy, shipwrecked on a remote island, who must adapt to life alone. Over time, he feels another presence. As dangerous invaders appear on the horizon, it becomes clear he must save the fragile island paradise, learning along the way that this world is home to both unimaginable danger and beauty.
An illustrious voice cast includes Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water, Paddington), Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders, Oppenheimer) and Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai, Letters from Iwo Jima, Tokyo Vice).
Co-director Neil Boyle will be at the Palace on our show on Sunday 18th August for a Q&A. Neil has worked as an animator on films including Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Simpsons and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. After the screening ofKensuke’s Kingdom, the audience will have a unique opportunity to find out how Neil set about directing the film, working from a script co-written by Michael Morpurgo and Frank Cottrell Boyce (Millions).
