From the outside you may wonder how the building can fit a cinema inside, but come through the doors on Harbour Street to discover a cosy foyer with popcorn, sweets and cold drinks as well as freshly brewed coffee. Step into the auditorium and you’ll find 111 comfortable seats (23 on the balcony, 88 in the stalls), plus the latest digital sound and projection technology, and a large screen that stretches the width of the building. The cinema has wheelchair and pram access, too.
The Palace is different from the multiplex experience. It brings something personal to your evening out. It may have only one screen, but that doesn’t prevent it from showing a variety of the latest films, many unlikely to be showing anywhere else in Thanet. By selecting these great films – award-winners, audience favourites, critics’ choices – the Palace aims to be your ticket to the most entertaining and thought-provoking films on offer.
The cinema is easy to find on Harbour Street next to the beach at Viking Bay, a few minutes’ walk from car parks, bus stops and the rail station. It is surrounded by restaurants, family-friendly cafes, pubs and ice cream sellers.
In March 2016 the Palace was taken over by a local family with years of experience in the film industry. Simon and Corinna look forward to ensuring that this unique seaside cinema thrives long into the future and thank all their customers for their continued support.
See you at the Palace!
