Godland director Hlynur Pálmason’s inventive fourth feature is a witty yet tender portrait of a year in the life of a family whose parents are navigating their separation.
Across a year in rural Iceland, artist Anna (Saga Garðarsdóttir) and fisherman Magnús (Sverrir Gudnason) navigate marital separation while co-parenting their three children (played by Pálmason’s own).
Pálmason delicately captures the changing seasons and shifting family dynamics with warmth, humour and touches of absurdity, crafting an intimate meditation on love, nature, and unconventional families.
Special mention for Panda, the family dog, whose performance won this year’s Palme Dog at Cannes Film Festival.
