As much as we love independent film, we also love independent cinemas and other places to see a film!
As the last cinema in neighbouring Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate, we’re exploring the history of the Palace and the exciting film heritages of the three towns. In 2023 we presented a wide programme of events and screenings across the three towns in our ‘Magic Hours’ project and in 2025 celebrated the Palace’s anniversary in our ’60 Years a Cinema’ programme.
These and our on-going projects include archival research; capturing cinema memories with audio recording local audiences and cinema workers; free talks on everything from local cinema architecture to Thanet as film location to the work of local women amateur filmmakers held by Screen Archive South East.
We also run ‘Cinema Walks’ in Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate exploring on foot where to see a film from the 1890s to today (August + occasional other dates), take part in the annual Local History Day at Ramsgate Tunnels (May) and offer free talks and tours of the Palace for Heritage Open Days (Sept).
